New releases!
Film Movement and OCN commissioned to create the slipcover art for one of my favorite directors:
Eric Rohmer’s The Marquise of O is now out on Blu-ray with a watercolor slipcover illustrated by me! The film, starring Bruno Ganz and Edith Clever, won the Grand Prix at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival. This limited edition release also includes essays by film critics David Thomson and Kristen Yoonsoo Kim. You can purchase it on Vinegar Syndrome’s site.

“A dazzling testament...witty, joyous and so beautiful to look at.” - NY Times
Rohmer adapts Heinrich von Kleist’s 1808 novella, creating “the aura of a neoclassical dream, a fading vision of the virtue of gentility.” - Chicago Reader
Saturn’s Core commissioned me to make new slipcase art for the Blu-ray debut of Gorman Bechard’s You Are Alone!
“After a decade long sabbatical writing novels, legendary Connecticut based cult director Gorman Bechard (Psychos in Love, Disconnected, Galactic Giglio) returned to filmmaking with You Are Alone; a stripped down, micro-budget MiniDV lensed knockout that utilized an insular cast and a single filming location (New Haven’s storied Duncan Hotel). Lauded by critics as a ‘Last Tango in New Haven’ and featuring a staggering, award-winning performance by lead actress Jessica Bohl (which took the Best Actress award at both the Brooklyn Film Festival and Indiefest Chicago in 2005).” - Vinegar Syndrome
My limited edition slipcase is actually a single watercolor painting of the two leads together but they are divided by the Blu-ray spine so each character is alone on each side.
Special features include a brand new 2025 audio commentary, a newly shot career-spanning director’s interview, a rare rough-cut version of the feature, and seven of Bechard’s short films. It’s available to order here.
Vinegar Syndrome’s Halfway to Black Friday Sale ends MONDAY at 11:59 PM
Three Blu-rays with limited edition slipcovers by me are currently on sale at 50% off!
Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Distant won the Grand Prix at the 56th Cannes Film Festival and the lead actors Muzaffer Özdemir and Mehmet Emin Toprak both won for Best Actor. There are only 23 copies left!
“A movie of quiet revelations…thoughtfully orchestrated and filled with visual wit. Working in the tradition of Michelangelo Antonioni’s early-‘60s (and Abbas Kiarostami’s early-‘90s) modernism, Turkish auteur Nuri Bilge Ceylan should secure his reputation here…” - J. Hoberman, The Village Voice
Dancing in the Dust and Beautiful City, the first two films directed by Asghar Farhadi, are restored and released as a double feature on Blu-ray for the first time ever in North America. Farhadi won the Academy Award for Best International Films The Salesman and A Separation.
Another double feature on sale is In Bloom/My Happy Family, directed by Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Groß.
In Bloom is a coming-of-age film about the friendship between two teenage girls in 1992, set in the capital of newly independent Georgia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Ekvtimishvili’s semi-autobiographical debut film premiered at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival and was selected as the Georgian entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards.
My Happy Family focuses on a literature teacher who leaves her traditional multigenerational Georgian household to live by herself, announcing her departure on the eve of her 52nd birthday to the shock of her husband, children, and parents. It premiered at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival and screened at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
